PDC

Earth Ways is open to receive 2- 5 students to live, study and work on our permaculture farm.  For prices on a sliding scale between £1000 –  £3200 (The summer course has a special program, so the price will reflect that) you will receive:  A warm bed in a shared and friendly home environment with me my helpers and the rest of the students. We will live in a simple rented cottage, which includes a shared kitchen, a bed in a private space or shared room (same gender or for you both if you are a couple), shared living room, rural internet access, heating and housing expenses, access to the extensive library, 100+ hours or tuition learning permaculture design from Ludwig Appeltans and several guest teachers, a certificate of completion from the PDC from the Permaculture Association Britain, 35 hours a week seasonal hands-on learning (working on the farm). It does not include food, that we will buy and cook together, food that we produce on the farm and local wild food are free. Food is basically mostly vegan, unless so desired, we can have some eggs or butcher a surplus male farm bird or process some road kill. (This is optional, not part of the essential curriculum, people are free to opt out or in.)

Planting and sowing

Possible learning activities:

Keeping pigs, chickens, ducks, apiary, sheep; composting; growing in a poly-tunnel, Jean Pain heating systems, companion planting, sowing, permaculture design, home brew wine or beer, mushroom cultivation, home made herbal remedies and herbal organic pest, permaculture weed and fungal control, wild food harvesting, survival skills, woodland skills, designing a healthy diet, connecting and selling to a community, designing money out of the system, LETS, hydroponics, aquaponics, nature connection mentoring, observation techniques, soil identification and re-mediation techniques, plant, tree, animal identification, tracking, bird language, bird ID and mapping, site visits, Munro Climbing and much much more.

The basic program is permaculture, permaculture design and nature connection. The long duration of the course gives us an opportunity to design the rest of the program together, depending on desires, needs, leeway within the fees and extra opportunities that arise locally.
The summer course is one week longer and more expensive because we add a week long nature immersion with Greg to it and a 3 day interspecies communication workshop with Anna Breytenbach. Speedy booking for this one is essential. It will fill up really quickly!

The farm is located in an unusually beautiful part of Scotland. Wedged between the bay of Findhorn, a SSSI! and a large pine forest on the shores of the Moray firth. The biodiversity ranges from Otters, Dolphins, Seals, Salmon. Deer, Badgers, Wild Cats, Pine Martin, Red Squirrel, Ospreys, King Fishers, dozens of birds (we identified 76 different species so far) and many more various rare and endangered species of wild life.

Preferably we are looking for 2 – 5 people willing to take the course together at the same time to make it viable and rich.

To apply and ask for more information and to ask questions contact Ludwig.

Testimonies from previous PDC students:

It doesn’t become any more permaculture than this! Ludwig Appeltans has a unique way of combining in depth nature connection and awareness with permaculture design. These two months at Earth-Way Farm have been quite mind-changing and a wonderful way of thinking outside of the normal “box”. Ludwig has been a wonderful teacher, mentor and, glad to say, friend. Thank you.
Patrick Maginnis

If you want to experience permaculture and nature connection on a long term basis, so you can really make it your own, this is the place to be.
Jolanda

When I think back to what I knew before and compare it to now, the change is quite astounding. If you’d asked me 3 months ago to create a vegetable routine I would have laughed, but I’ve just created my first reasonably comprehensive one that I feel would have some good success in reality.
This course is a must for anyone who wishes to feel empowered to actually live in a way that is more authentic. Food is a big part of this, as is nature connection, after doing this course, one is able to design and produce food systems, beautiful connections with community, self and others, while keeping ‘nature’ mother earth as the highest priority. Of course it is an ongoing learning journey and for me it feels, the journey has just begun.
Danielle

Rather than emerging myself into books and papers, I emerged myself into nature. You can learn so much through simply observing and being aware. I can recommend it to anybody that loves combining practical permaculture with background knowledge. Be prepared to be a different person afterwards.
Nils

The two months gave me space to absorb all the information through practise on the farm, reading in the library and sitting room and asking Ludwig and my fellow students loads of questions. I think it is great if you want to have a good experience of life in beautiful Scotland. Learn shitloads about permaculture and everything else. Get a sense of the challenges we have on this earth and have fun.

10 week permaculture internship in Sweden

10 WEEK PROJECT INITIATOR INTERNSHIP PROGRAM 28TH APR – 5TH JULY 2014

Ridgedale Permaculture is a family owned pasture and perennial crop based beyond organic local food producer and educational hub in Värmland, Sweden. A flagship poly- income diverse small farm, Ridgedale is Scandinavia’s first Keyline designed farm and a leading regional education provider in the field of Permaculture and Regenerative Agriculture.

Ridgedale Permaculture’s primary responsibility is regenerating landscapes, ecosystem processes and soils through replicable, scalable and profitable symbiotic farm enterprises. Our secondary responsibility is to educate, facilitate, inform and empower people into action through regenerative design, enterprise and holistic decision-making that fosters and stimulates local community, economy and resilience.

Our 10 week accelerator Internship program is specially designed for people wanting a fast track intensive immersion into project initiation, working alongside a professional designer accredited by P.R.I. (Aus) & P.C. Assoc (UK). Are you are farmer or land-manager wanting to use regenerative design to overhaul your enterprise? A pre- professional or professional designer wanting to broaden your skills and get practical project initiation skills? Want to start a project and farm in the future and don’t know where to start? We believe this is a unique opportunity and learning experience in Europe, with 5 certificate courses and intensive hands on experience implementing diverse systems at the first Keyline designed farm and dedicated professional Permaculture education center in Scandinavia. This accelerator training is designed to fast track your Permaculture pathway.

You can tie this into a learning package by combining it with a PDC (a pre- requisite for the training) and receive a 10 week intensive learning immersion at the Farm HQ.  You will also be spending some time each week working on a private design project and can get regular feedback from a professional designer as well as supportive peer reviews within our learning community.

During your stay we will be dividing time between theory and practical work implementing regenerative systems within a holistic context and understanding of the farm design and decision making priorities.  We will be working hard, eating well and learning a lot!

Can’t make this training?

We offer 2 x 10 week Internship programs annually.  Whilst the experience will differ due to the season and activities at the farm, the overall intention and learning experience is designed in the same way.  We have a 10 week accelerator program running Jul – Sept 2014

WHY TAKE A TRAINING AT RIDGEDALE PERMACULTURE?

Our courses are accredited by the Permaculture Research Institute (PRI), Australia (PRI Registered Teacher No. 24) and the Permaculture Association UK. This ensures you are you being trained by a personally vetted field trained professional, actively engaged in design and with recognized teaching skill. We make a living designing professionally and we live and work in our designs and are continually deepening our knowledge and understanding to empower what we have to share. We are engaged in regenerative design daily; professionally, on the farm and at home and have been for many years. We are 100% committed to radical system redesign by managing financial, social and ecological elements holistically.

DESIGN is the foundation of all our trainings Our experience shows that students engaging in regular design exercises synthesize course content much more effectively, and produce more competent and actionable designs. We teach principle-based design, so you will understand how to apply design to any site regardless of the climate or circumstance. Our no- nonsense approach to design is key to our trainings, and our practical experience in every major climate zone integrating the best of several disciplines of regenerative design means we can impart very broad and practical knowledge and experience.

We offer a clear, pragmatic and scientific approach to design. Permaculture is a design science; metaphysics is not included in our curriculums, and for good reason. Students of all backgrounds, cultures and religions are fully welcome and respected. We are integrationalists and believe in integrating anything effective and workable from any discipline to widen our scope, we have been using Keyline® design and Holistic Management® in our work for years.

We can support you after the training with both personal and professional experience in further education we can offer advice, design support and recommend further learning opportunities for those wishing to take design further. We have acted as mentors in longer term education programs, such as the 2 yr Permaculture Diploma, as well as run a wide variety of workshops and trainings to students from over 45 countries through all climate zones.
